Install multiple instances of Tomcat 5.5 on Windows servers

Instructions to install multiple instances of Tomcat 5.5 on Windows servers

1. Install Tomcat Windows Service using .exe install file. You can get install file from here.
2. Check the Windows - Control Panel - Admin tools - Services and make sure you can start and stop the service.
3. Assuming you have installed the previous install in c:\tomcat5.5, create a second instance of Tomcat by copying files from c:\tomcat5.5 to a new directory (c:\Tomcat5.5new)
4. Open the server.xml in c:\Tomcat5.5new\conf directory and modify ports for SHUTDOWN and HTTP Connector.
5. Let's assume you want to call new service as Tomcat5new. Go to c:\Tomcat5.5new\bin directory. Rename the file tomcat5w.exe to tomcat5neww.exe. There is extra w at the end. This executable file will be used for configuring Tomcat later.
6. Run the tomcat5.exe to create a new service for the new instance.

tomcat5 //IS//Tomcat5new
--DisplayName="Apache Tomcat 5 New"
--Description="New Tomcat Instance"

--Classpath="C:\Tomcat5.5new\bin\bootstrap.jar"
--Jvm=auto --Startup=auto --StartMode=jvm
--StartPath="C:\Tomcat5.5new"
--StopMode=jvm
--StartClass=org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap
--StartParams=start
--StopClass=org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap
--StopParams=stop --StopPath="C:\Tomcat5.5new"
--Startup=auto
--LogPath="C:\Tomcat5.5new\logs"
--StdOutput=auto
--StdError=auto
--JvmOptions="-Dcatalina.home=C:\Tomcat5.5new;-Dcatalina.base=C:\Tomcat5.5new;-Djava.io.tmpdir=C:\Tomcat5.5new\temp;-Djava.endorsed.dirs=C:\Tomcat5.5new\endorsed"

7. Run tomcat5neww.exe in c:\tomcat5.5new\bin directory to configure new Tomcat instance.
